What is charism?
A charism is a gift of the Holy Spirit given to directly or indirectly
benefit the Church. Charism is at the heart of a Congregation's identity.
It provides a frame of reference for mission, vision, formation and spirituality.
The charism of the
Felician Sisters is intimately linked with our active vocation. It is
also closely tied to our Mission of Spiritual Renewal. The charism, or
gift, of the Felician Sisters is most often expressed as instilling true
piety in all classes of society.
The first Felician
Sisters were imbued with the conviction that they were called to the corporal
and spiritual works of mercy with a deep sense of total self-giving. Their
piety was not one of "pious practices" but rather one that flowed
from a profound faith relationship wherein God was known, loved and served.
Our sisters live
out the Felician charism and most authentically reflect their charism
and that of their Foundress, Blessed Mary Angela - "when out of boundless
love of God, they manifest complete surrender to God's Will overflowing
into compassionate service and total availability and concern for the
salvation of their people." This spirit is also like that of their
Holy Father's, Francis of Assisi, whose life blended a profound and mystical
sense of prayer with direct and loving service to the poorest of the poor
and those most in need.
The charism of the
Felician Sisters, their gift to the Church through the power of the Holy
Spirit, is this intimately integrated life of contemplation coupled with
action born out of a boundless love for God.
