From the beginnings
of our Congregation, the Franciscan spirit and the Franciscan way were inspirational
forces in the life of our Foundress and the early Felicians. As Francis
was obedient to the Father and an ardent lover of Jesus Incarnate in his
Passion and Resurrection, so too were these early Felicians, embracing the
theology and practice of the Franciscanism. Francis was so attractive to
the early and current Franciscans because of his simple lifestyle and love
of poverty. The Felician Sisters also embraced the call to continual conversion
that was such a formative force in Francis' life. Like Francis, we profess
a special loyalty and love for the Church and a special reverence and respect
for all of creation and life.
At the heart of all
Franciscan spirituality is the rich and infinite mystery that God is good!
Like Francis of Assisi, Felicians gather to go re-build the church as
Francis had been directed at the Chapel at San Damiano. Like Francis,
they do this with Living Stones - stone by stone, heart by heart.
As Felician/Franciscans,
we also integrate the four foundational Franciscan elements within our
spirituality. Those are:
Conversion
- we work at being open at all times to a change of heart.
Contemplation
- relates to our sinking in of our roots deeply into daily living and
seeing God present there.
Concern for the
Poor - acting as responsible stewards of the earth's gifts and resources.
Minority -
living our lives in service and in solidarity with God's people.
Like the first followers
of Francis, Felician/Franciscans love to be together, although the Franciscan
way is not so much about sharing a common place but about sharing a common
heart and understanding.
