St.
Clare, August 11
Clare Offreduccio, born in 1194, was the daughter of a wealthy family
in Assisi. When she was eighteen years old, she heard a sermon by St.
Francis , and was moved by it to follow his example and vow herself to
a life of poverty. A life-long friend of Francis, she founded a congregation
of contemplative religious women, the Poor Clares, which continues in
many parts of the world to this day.
St.
Felix of Cantalice, May 18Felix of Cantalice , a sixteenth-century Capuchin Franciscan brother, spent most of his life begging on the streets of Rome. During the early days of the congregation in Poland, Angela's followers would sometimes bring the children in their care to pray at a shrine to St. Felix. The sisters soon became known as the Sisters of St. Felix, or Felician Sisters.
